Had the honor to broadcast from Parry’s Pizzeria & Bar in Highlands Ranch for Another Big Ass Tap Takeover where over 26 Avery Brewing Company brews were on tap and some rare bottles were floating around too! Founder David Parry was our special co host! Dave Butler from Fermentedly Challenged sat in most of the show and we were also joined by Brewtally Insane’s Mark Robinson. We also had on Avery’s National Sales Director Dustin LeMoine and Darin McGregor who is their National Marketing Director. Breck Brew’s Todd Thibault also dropped us a line from the western slope! Good times were had by all and can’t wait for next years event!

Colorado Craft Beer Show Brewcast: 4-27-2013 Parry’s Pizza Big Ass Avery Tap Takeover

Want to give a big shout out to David Parry, Keniey Sonley, and the entire Parry’s crew for making us a part of this event. 6 months of planning and marketing for this unbelievable tap takeover and we can’t wait for the next one!

Elizabeth Kagan from Firestone Walker was Turk’s co host for the show this week as we broadcasted live from Parry’s Pizzeria & Bar in Highlands Ranch for their 3 location Big Ass Tap Takeover. Avery Brewing provided 31 beers at each location. We spent the whole first hour talking  with David Parry and Adam Avery. This was our first chance to have Adam on our show!



In Hour Two we opened up with our Beer Despondent Michael Nelson who joined us from the Greenwood Village Parry’s. Next, Breckenridge Brewery‘s Todd Thibault jumped on with us live from Highlands Ranch and then we did Mobile Canning‘s Brew News You Can Use. Around the bottom of the hour we were joined by beer bloggers Dave Butler from Fermentedly Challenged and Mark Robinson from Brewtally Insane. We talked about Avery brews, what they are covering and about some new breweries. Also this hour, Parry’s Director of Beer Flow Melanie Whitcomb jumped on to give us a scene set from the Parry’s in Castle Rock.

In Hour 1 we talked to Parry’s owner and all around workaholic David Parry. We also grabbed Thibault who was live from the Breckenridge Brewfest. We also chatted with Dave Butler from Fermentedly Challenged who was live from the 3rd Annual Beer Bloggers Conference in Indianapolis.

In Hour 2 we spent a half hour with Matt Jones and Andrew Emerton from New Belgium Brewing. We talked about their sour program, La Folie, their new beer Red Hoptober and some new Lips of Faith to be hitting stores soon. We closed out the show with Parry’s beer stud Greg Brill and GM Melanie Whitcomb. You need to get into Parry’s and check out their constantly rotating 50 tap handles. Their shop in Castle Rock about to go to 50 taps as well!

Asher Brewing Company –located at 4699 Nautilus Court just west of Jay road on 63rd Ave. Come spend your St Patrick’s Day with Asher Brewing! The Zimmermans and Jababa will be playing and Heirloom food truck will be serving food. Organic beer, music and great food! They  will be opening at 2:00 and music starts at 3:30.

Dry Dock Brewing in Aurora – The Irish Red and Irish Dry Stout on tap in honor of St Patrick’s day this year! Head on over  next Friday or Saturday! Denver’s premier traditional Irish pipe band, Michael Collins Pipes & Drums will be playing on Friday at 6pm.

Freshcraft at1530 Blake St. – Opened early and a great place to hang just a block east of the parade madness. A lot of great stouts on tap!!!

Grimm Bros Brewery in Loveland release their newest dry stout amed Bearskin. The St. Patrick’s Day activities include an Irish dance lesson and performance, and catered Irish pub fare (made with favorite Grimm beers) including: banger and cabbage sandwiches, corned beef stew made with Bearskin Stout, and Little Red Cap Ale Chicken Sandwiches. Food prices range from $5-$9.

Denver Off the Wagon throwing down at 8 PM at Star Bar! Join the Wagon & Star Bar crew!.  Fat Daddy’s BBQ arrived at 11AM to keep your tummy happy and live music with the Kentucky Street Parlor Pickers begins at 2PM and continues with Midlife Crisis at 6PM to keep your ears happy. The beer and good Irish cheer will be flowing like the River Shannon!  Come try Seamroy Red, the collaboration Star Bar did with the Rackhouse Pub andOdell Brewing. A continually hopped Irish Red.  And continually delicious, I might add. Local stouts and other brews will be in heavy supply. And the special early release of Colette from Great Divide!

At Upslope in Boulder: In true Irish fashion they will be tapping a keg of their Foreign Style Stout aged in Whiskey barrels for four months!  A tap room favorite, The Wolftones, will be playing some great Irish tunes starting at 4:30pm and local food truck, Verde, will be offering corned beef and cabbage tacos.

Crabtree Brewing inGreeley – Wear your green and kick your St. Patrick’s Day off right with a green beer at the brewery this Saturday!! Get $1 off that pint by showing us your best Irish Jig for 30 seconds! Videos of your jig will be put on our YouTube page where our fans will vote for the best one!! The winner will receive an amazing prize to be announced later! Stop in between 12pm the 4pm to enter the contest.

Falling Rock at 19th and Blake - The patio will be open, and the cash only beer booth out front will have $6 pints of Guinness, Harp, Smithwicks, Murphy’s Irish Red and Murphy’s Stout. There will also be $6 shots of Strannahan’s Colorado Whiskey at the cash only booth. Don’t worry, there is an ATM inside the bar if you need it. Also they will have their St. Pat’s lunch special of corned buffalo and cabbage available as soon as it’s tender. This is a FRTH tradition you don’t want to miss. Please, do not ask for green beer. They like their beers to taste like beer, not food coloring.

New Beer Releases: Thanks to Dave Butler at Fermentedly Challenged!

Great Divide’s return of  Colette, the Chocolate Oak Aged and 18th Anniversary. All three seasonals will return April 1st and each offer something delightful and different. Colette, a farmhouse ale, is a GABF silver medal winner and crowd favorite. It’s light, dry notes pair perfectly with the setting sun. Chocolate Oak Aged Yeti is one iteration of their Yeti Imperial Stout. It’s brewed with cocoa nibs and cayenne pepper to give it a little extra something. Lastly, their 18th Anniversary Ale is a perennial celebration of doing business. This wood-aged Double IPA is a real palate pleaser.

Pateros Creek Brewing’s Stalwart Ale. It’s their Stimulator pale ale infused with Szechuan Peppercorns and Grains of Paradise. Also it’s green. Stop in today starting at noon for a taste.

Funkwerk’s latest beer Brett Dream. Available now at the brewery and soon on shelves.

Lone Tree just released their Marienplatz Pilsner. This is a German lager brew made with Noble hops to add a spicy note.

Also from Dave Butler! Six more breweries just got added to the list of new businesses intending to open up. Coming this year or next:  Atom Brewing (Erie), Bayfield Brewing Company (Bayfield), Beer By Design Brewery (Brighton), Prairie Winds Brewing Company (Deer Trail), Shine Restaurant and Gathering (Boulder), and Kokopelli Beer Company (Westminster).

Estes Park Brewery will not host the  Rocky Mountain Brewfest this year! There is rumor that others may take up the reigns and put on an event at the Estes Park fairgrounds around July 28th. Estes Park Brewery plans to resume their fest in late June of 2013.

New Belgium Brewing will start distributing to Michigan in late August. This will bring New Belgium’s distribution to 29 states and theDistrict of Columbia. NBB has inked deals with 22Michigan distributors to carry its beer.

Chef Ian Clark of Centro LatinKitchen & Refreshment Palace has been an avid part of the Boulderdining scene for over 12 years.  His commitment and passion in the kitchen have earned him recognition locally and nationally including a feature on the Cooking Channel’s Unique Eats and being named “Denver’s Best Restaurants” by 5280 Magazine.  Chef Ian’s kitchen craft has awakened our palates to his soulfully delicious Latin cuisine for over five years and now he’ll begin to share his same thoughtful technique and passion with his handbuilt ales. With this he found success, confirming that he could open a small nano brewery called BRU, handbuilt ales in his garage.  BRU will begin offering beers crafted on Chef’s Ian half-barrel system starting in April. From Shikes at the Westword:  In June, Hugo’s Colorado Beer & Spirits will open in Capitol Hill, selling primarily craft brews and spirits cooked up in Colorado. Owner Joe-Michael Wright, had planned on selling only craft beer at the store, but decided to include spirits when he saw how many new small distilleries were opening. Eventually, he says, he may look to sell some Colorado-made wines.  He’ll carry a smaller selection of craft beers from out-of-state, as well. The store is located in the former Nicolo’s Chicago Style Pizza at 1205 East 13th Avenue. As a nod to who got it all started, he will carry Coors Original.

In Colorado Springs Great Storm Brewing opens up their doors today to serve beer and pretzels. Owner Lynn Jacobs  and her husband and head brewer Jeff  holding the grand opening and will feature $1 off pints from 6 to 8 p.m., paired with free food while it lasts. After that, it’ll offer strictly pretzel service with brews. Jeff has prepared eight house beers for his taps, including his oatmeal-rum-raisin stout. The brewery will be open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Find em onNorth Nevada between Austin Bluffs and Fillmore.

On the heels of a very successful first year for volunteer hop growers, AC Golden Brewing Company is providing drinkers with another chance to grow hops for inclusion in its Colorado Native Lager. Those who sign up will receive two Chinook rhizomes from AC Golden, along with planting, growing and harvesting information. Any harvested hops can be dropped off at Colorado Native Hop Drop parties around the state in the fall. The Chinooks will then be added to a Colorado Native brew. To sign up, just ‘like’ Colorado Native Lager on its Facebook page. Then click on the Hop Growers Submission Tab posted on the left and fill it out. On April 10, Chinook hop rhizomes will be mailed out to volunteers, along with planting and growing instructions. According to the Denver Post, A couple of months ago, some new heavy duty equipment arrived at the Denver Beer Co.: two new stainless steel seven-barrel fermenter.  But a little more quietly, Charlie Berger and friends have been gathering a collection of wood barrels for some small-batch experimentation. A 93-gallon cognac barrel arrived from France, still holding a couple gallons of the sweet liquor, Berger said. The brewers filled that with a barleywine that is still aging on its first fill. Two Wild Turkey barrels are full of Russian Imperial Stout. A French chardonnay barrel holds a Belgian pale ale. And a red wine barrel is on its second fill. The first was a dry stout, the second sounds like dessert – a Belgian imperial stout with chocolate and Western Slope cherries. “We are hoping after the first go-around in these barrels, to get get going on sours,” Berger said. “These right now are definitely more going to focus on the woody characteristics.” Read more here http://blogs.denverpost.com/beer/2012/03/09/barrelaging-denver-beer/2917/

Gene Simmons is parlaying his love for music into a new restaurant and entertainment venture called Rock & Brews. The concept captures the excitement of live concerts in an authentically themed backstage environment including Rock & Brews. They will serve rock musicians’ favorite foods and highlight an ever-changing, award-winning craft beer selection with hundreds of artisanal breweries featured from around the world. The first Rock & Brews is scheduled to open inEl Segundo,Calif., on April 3. Several others are in the works in theLos Angelesarea, including one atLos AngelesInternationalAirport, as well as locations inDenver;Atlanta;Maui,Hawaii;Tokyo; andLos Cabos,Mexico.

Mississippi is finally making some headway with their antiquated beer laws.  Three bills that will make for a better beer situation in the state passed the state senate.  Next stop, the house.

The bills are:

Senate Bill 2878 – Allows the alcohol by weight to be raised from 5% to 8%.

Senate Bill 2370 – Allows beer with greater than 5 percent alcohol by weight to be brewed. The beer could also be sold over Mississippi state lines.

Senate Bill 2600 – Allows breweries to provide samples of the beer.

A bill that would make crucial changes toWisconsin’s homebrew law has passed the Legislature. The bill now moves to Gov. Scott Walker’s desk. It would allow home brewers to make and share beer or wine outside their home. Current state law prohibits home brewers from transporting any beer or wine they make. It technically makes tasting events and competitions illegal. Several amendments were added to the original bill, including clarification that a state municipality can regulate a tasting event or competition. The change satisfies critics who say the original version ignored state regulations on alcohol distribution.

The Georgia state senate has approved legislation that if past could be a big benefit for the state’s brewpubs.  The bill will double the amount of barrels a brewpub can sell from 5,000 to 10,000.  In addition, it will raise the limit of barrels that the brewpub can sell to distributors from a mere 500 to 5,000.    A huge bonus for brewpubs looking to sell outside their 4 walls.House Bill 472 passed without any opposition.  Next stop for the bill is the Rules committee.
