Big Beers, Belgians & Barleywines 15th Anniversary Saturday January 10th 2015

1-10 6

Sometimes you have to pinch yourself and say your dreaming! Well, this was another one of those times where we found ourselves with our 4th invite to Big Beers in Vail! Yep, Laura Lodge was kind enough to have us back for 3 days of crazy fun. If you’ve never been to Big Beers, Belgians & Barleywines - we suggest you put it on your bucket list. From educational seminars to insanely thought out beer dinners to a grand tasting that is TRULY grand. Big Beers has it all! Throw in the Vail Casade for lodging and the beauty of Vail Valley and you get blown away. Laura and Bill Lodge took great care again and invited us to the Epic/Sam Adams Beer Dinner. We also did Beer Yoga, skied, sat in the bar and met countless beer heroes. It gets better every year! We just wish we were able to take more and better photos.

Thibault and Stacy sat in for the show and we talked to a ton of people. In hour caught up with New Belgium Brewing‘s Brewmaster Peter Bouckaert and Sensory Specialist Lauren Salazar, John Carlson of the Colorado Brewers Guild, Dogfish Head‘s Sam Galagione, and Ska Brewing‘s co-owner and founder Dave Thibodeau.

In hour two we led off with Boston Beer Company Brewmaster Jennifer Glanville. We then caught up with Renegade Brewing‘s Laura Vande Zande, Caution Brewing‘s Danny and Betty Wang and Epic Brewing‘s head brewer Jordan Schupbach.

Brand Detailed

Double Diesel is back! Rockyard’s Double IPA takes IPA to the extreme. Incalculable bitterness, and 10.1% abv, this beer is one you won’t soon forget. A big malty body forms the base, then it is hopped, hopped some more, and then dry hopped, so you can’t escape the hop flavor, bitterness and aroma. Hopsinclude Amarillo, Saphir, Simcoe, and Willamette. Look for it now as well as for Rockyard on the floor at GABF and in the Farm to Table Pavilion. They are paired up with the Squeaky Bean on Wynkoop Street for a unique food and beer pairing experience.

Cheers from an extraordinarily busy Wynkoop!  They’re super excited to have a slough of events coming up with GABF raring its pretty head!  Here’s a small taste of what’s happening…  They’ll be pouring a Fresh Hop Belgorado Belgian-Style IPA featuring 250 lbs of fresh Chinooks from Misty Mountain Hop Farm on Saturday!  Sunday is a big 1400 Miles RiNo Block Party supporting the Pints for Prostates Charity featuring the arrival of the BeerLiner in Denver!  On Wednesday, the BeerLiner comes to stay at the Wynkoop for four days, Oct. 1st through 4th, and they’re celebrating with a special Prickly Pear Berlinerweiss! The Wynkoop is looking forward to Beers Made By Walking on Friday October 3rd where they’ll be pouring the Denver Pacific Smoked Oak Stout. Keep your eyes peeled on booth L1 at GABF- for special tappings throughout the weekend!

Colorado Craft Beer Show Brewcast: Saturday September 21st 2013

Turk and Daniel Ekker from Argonaut Wine & Liquor hosted the show from the studio in the DTC! Guests in hour one were Dennis and Daniel Richards from Echo Brewing Company in Frederick. These are two really great guys, who make great beer and kicked some ass at the Colorado State Fair last month. We got their story and talked about their brews. Todd Thibault also jumped on from the Breckenridge Oktoberfest.

Photo from the Denver Post

In Hour two we were joined by a legend in the business! Keith Villa founded Blue Moon Brewing Company and grew it into what it is today! We got his background, how the idea was almost smashed before and during it’s inception and about the craft versus crafty debate.

We also talked to Chad Melis from Oskar Blues about their fundraising efforts to help folks who were hit with the recent flooding in Colorado. It’s the Oskar Blues CAN’d Aid Foundation!

We Have a New Sponsor: Tom’s Brew Shop in Lakewood

Mobile Canning Joins the CCBS Family

We are very proud to announce that Mobile Canning is joining the Colorado Craft Beer Show Family! They will be sponsoring our Brew News You Can Use Segment each week.

MobileCanning Colorado was founded in 2011 by two friends Pat Hartman and Ron Popma, both long-time home brewers, who had a common interest in becoming commercially involved in the industry. One of the founders had a dream of opening his own brewery and was finishing up an Intensive Brewing Science for Practical Brewing course at the University of California at Davis when his dream took a different direction and MobileCanning Colorado and ultimately MobileCanningSystems evolved from there.

While craft beer canning has become an enormously popular trend, Pat and Ron found that many small to midsize microbreweries—and even some larger microbreweries—are unable to either afford the equipment or spare the space in their facility to package their beer for consumption beyond their tap room, other than through keg sales and growler fills. In fact, many operations have latent brewing capacity because they just don’t have a way to get more beer out their door if they produce it. So Pat and Ron started researching the idea of mobile canning in earnest, figuring out how they might bring their idea to fruition.

They have already canned batches for: Boulder Beer Company, Crabtree Brewing Company, Pateros Creek Brewing Company, Renegade Brewing Company, Bonfire Brewing Company, Crystal Springs Brewing Company, Dank IPA (Prost Brewing Company and Dad & Dude’s Breweria), Wicked Corp (Distillery), Tire Shop Wine and Spirits (Contract Brew through Crabtree), Big Choice Brewing Company and Revolution Brewing Company. They also will soon be canning for River North Brewery, Redstone Meadery and Gore Range Brewing Company!

With the Colorado operation thriving and additional staff brought on board, Pat and Ron turned their attention to the idea of sharing the opportunity and the benefit of their extensive learning experience with others of like interest throughout the United States. This idea had been in their minds for some time; in fact, when word of the launch of MobileCanning Colorado first reached the craft brewing industry, without great fanfare or even a public announcement, the guys began receiving inquiries on the possibility of their providing support for similar operations in other regions. However, Pat and Ron, recognizing the extent of the challenges they were facing in creating and refining the MobileCanning system for robust and reliable production deployment, had placed it on the back burner until they were confident that they had refined and streamlined things to the point where other entrepreneurs would not need to deal with the steep learning curve and need for innovation on the fly that they had experienced. In October 2012 the MobileCanningSystems Affiliate Program was offered in its first iteration to a small number of early adopters as a way to test and refine the offering and ensure that it would deliver high value to both affiliates and the end-customer—the craft brewers that were the genesis of the whole idea of Mobile Canning. By the end of 2012, the first three affiliates had joined the MobileCanningSystems program, providing great feedback and ideas on the structure and content of the program. Based upon this learning, the full program was launched in January 2013.

We are very honored to call these guys friends and sponsors of the show!
